Bounded rationality of identity thieves: Using offender-based research to inform policy*

چکیده
Research Summary Data for this study were collected in semistructured interviews with 59 individuals serving time in federal prisons for identity theft. We explore how offenders’ experiences and life circumstances affected their subjective assessments of risks and rewards and thus facilitated the decision to engage in identity theft. Our findings suggest that offenders perceive identity theft as an easy, rewarding, and relatively risk-free way to fund their chosen lifestyles.

Applying KT Network Complexity to a Highly-Partnered Knowledge Transfer Effort; Comment on “Using Complexity and Network Concepts to Inform Healthcare Knowledge Translation”
The re-conceptualization of knowledge translation (KT) in Kitson and colleagues’ manuscript “Using Complexity and Network Concepts to Inform Healthcare Knowledge Translation” is an advancement in how one can incorporate implementation into the KT process. Kitson notes that “the challenge is to explain how it might help in the healthcare policy, practice, and research communities.” We propose th...

Criminal Victims, Victimized Criminals, or Both? A Deeper Look at the Victim-Offender Overlap Offenders are more likely than non-offenders to be victims, and victims are more likely than non-victims to be offenders. The overlap between offenders and victims is not well understood in criminology, and in the economics of crime the stylized empirical fact is even widely ignored. The paper gives a ...
متن کاملThe Simonian bounded rationality hypothesis and the expectation formation mechanism
In the 1980s and at beginning of the 1990s the debate on expectation formation mechanism was dominated by the rational expectation hypothesis. Later on, more interest was directed towards alternative approaches to expectations analysis, mainly based on the bounded rationality paradigm introduced earlier by Herbert A. Simon. The bounded rationality approach is used here to describe the way expec...
متن کاملBounded Rationality in the Iterated Prisoner’s Dilemma
In diverse fields such as computer science, economics and psychology, bounded rationality has emerged as an important research topic. Models which assume the existence of perfectly rational agents seem inadequate for many realworld problems where agents often lack perfect rationality. Classes of imperfect rationality include the conditions of incomplete knowledge, memory, information or computa...
متن کاملResearch on Bounded Rationality of Fuzzy Choice Functions
The rationality of a fuzzy choice function is a hot research topic in the study of fuzzy choice functions. In this paper, two common fuzzy sets are studied and analyzed in the framework of the Banerjee choice function. The complete rationality and bounded rationality of fuzzy choice functions are defined based on the two fuzzy sets. An assumption is presented to study the fuzzy choice function,...
